About me

I am Sascha, better known as “Laker”, born in 1977. I live in beautiful Leonberg and hold both German and Swiss citizenship.

My nickname “Laker” has been with me since my CB radio days. I actually put the hobby aside at the end of the 1990s, but it never really let go of me.

📻 Back to radio – with a few detours

Even back then, I originally wanted to obtain an amateur radio license. As life goes, other things came first – but the idea always stayed.

In August 2025, the time had finally come:
After a lot of self-study, YouTube, and old books, I passed the amateur radio license exam (Class A).

Shortly after, I received my callsign:

DL4KER

Clubstation P24

The callsign combines my old CB nickname “Laker” with my current amateur radio life.

Learning in the local club

Right after passing the exam, I joined the local amateur radio club P24.

Honestly, at the beginning I often felt like I didn’t really know anything.

But that’s exactly the beauty of amateur radio – you never stop learning.
The community in the club is incredibly supportive and has explained and shown me a lot as a newcomer.

For me, one thing is clear:
👉 A local radio club is a real enrichment – even for beginners or people without a license.

📡 QSL cards – analog is simply better

I’m quite old-school when it comes to some things – and QSL cards are definitely one of them.

I love these small paper cards. Each one tells a story, and that’s exactly what makes them so fascinating to me. I collect them with real enthusiasm.

🔧 Technology, tinkering & 3D printing

Professionally, I am a certified technician for PCB technology – and privately, a lot of my life also revolves around technology.

I enjoy building, repairing, and experimenting:

  • electronics and small device repairs
  • 3D printing projects
  • laser engraving and cutting
  • combinations of 3D printing and laser work

Typical projects include:

  • illuminated name signs
  • business signage
  • lithophane lamps and picture frames
  • small toys for children
  • practical mounts and storage boxes

I also give many things away – especially to children.
Because honestly: there’s hardly anything better than seeing a child smile when you hand over something handmade.

🎸 Free time & family

When I’m not tinkering or on the radio, I’m a big heavy metal fan.

Concerts and festivals are simply part of it for me, for example:

  • Wacken Open Air
  • Summer Breeze

And the best part:
My youngest son Liam (born 2018) is also active in the P24 club and shares the enthusiasm for technology and radio. Together, we sometimes go to child-friendly metal events like “Heavysaurus”.

👨‍👧 Family & tech in the blood

My daughter Talia (born 2004) now works in IT – she probably picked up a bit of her father’s old IT knowledge 😄

I also studied applied mathematics for computer science for a few semesters back then. Even though the path wasn’t completely traditional, it gave me a solid foundation that still helps me in my technical projects today.

🏫 And a few more things

In addition, I am involved in:

  • the school parent council
  • honorary membership with the “Schöckinger Walddruden” (even though carnival isn’t really my thing 😄)

🤷‍♂️ Conclusion

A bit of technology, a bit of radio, a bit of chaos – and a lot of passion.

Or simply:

As long as it never gets boring.
